The Jax Film Fest has exciting volunteer opportunities for the upcoming 10th annual festival taking place on Nov 1-4, 2012. We will be filling staffing needs for production team, screenings, parties, workshops and events.  Positions range in time commitment and intensity from intern level administrative and coordinating duties to film screening staff shifts.

We are seeking reliable, enthusiastic, friendly folks who love film, though previous experience in film or production is not necessary for all positions. We will work together to find a good fit for your experience, skills and interests and provide and opportunity that can fit the time you have to offer.

The list below is not exhaustive – if you feel you have a niche or time to offer but don’t see something perfect for you below- please be sure to contact Lourdes (Lou) Iglesias.

All positions are unpaid, however the festival is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization and can complete any service learning or hours tracking documentation necessary. Volunteers will receive (1) film screening ticket to a film of their choice for each 4 hours of service scheduled. At 25 hours + volunteers will earn  a PREFERRED PASS, at 80 hours or more volunteers will earn an ALL ACCESS PASS.

The 10th Annual Jax Film Fest will take place on Nov 1-4  at the Jacksonville Public Library, San Marco Theatre, Florida Theatre, and Ponte Vedra Concert Hall, and various other venues in the downtown and San Marco area.  Tickets are on sale now and can be purchased online through www.jaxfilmfest.com or www.eventbrite.com.

POSITIONS
Festival Coordinator Assistant: (1)
This position will work hand in hand with the Festival Coordinator starting asap through Nov 6 (2 days post festival).  Duties include assisting with all aspects of festival operations including coordinating between Producer and other team members, clerical and administrative tasks, box-office, logistics, etc. The perfect person for this position wants to work closely with Festival Coordinator learning how to produce a festival/event.  Computer skills essential, comfortable in a muti-tasking environment, likes to roll up sleeves and get things done, excellent follow through and time management skills. Able to take direction quickly and accomplish tasks with attention to detail. Will be quite time consuming but very very exciting!

House Managers: (20)
Each venue that screens films needs House Managers to coordinate the ticket sales/ usher staff, manage the sales platform, and be the primary contact for that venue during the time of their shift. Ideally we would have 2-4 House managers per screening venue and split the weekend between them. Only one needed for event/party.

Time Commitment:
Must be able to commit for full day or evening during the festival. Also most preferred are those willing to commit to a single venue for the whole weekend.

Screening Staffers: (32)
Before and after each screening, Staffers are needed to assist with ticket and merchandise sales, usher the audience, communicate with the House Manager regarding any venue issues and help during screening transitions. Most ideal would be a group who would like to “sponsor” the staffing for a venue for the weekend. Also will be scheduling back-up staffers.

Time commitment:
2.5-5 hours per shift. Must be able to commit to at least 2 shifts.

Filmmaker and Guest Host: (10)
Provide a personal touch to the experience that a filmmaker has while visiting Jacksonville. Ensure that filmmaker is transported to and from airport as well as to his/her events. Must have decent working car and friendly but professional demeanor. Might need to assist guest with transportation to shopping or dining needs.

Time commitment:
Approximately 10 hours during festival.

Runner/ Driver: (4)
Participate in festival operations by being available for most any task during the festival. Might transport items, do quick shopping, drive key festival staff to different events. Similar to a PA. Must have reliable transportation, able to be on time and respond quickly.

Time Commitment:
Can be done in 4 hour shifts, but must commit to at least 3 shifts during festival

Director Runner/Driver: (1)
Need one runner/runner totally dedicated to Director to be available for most of the weekend – especially for driving/dropping off.

Event Staffers: (24)
Provide support for parties, workshops or other events. Set-up and/or clean up. Ticket sales, communication with Event/party chairs and house managers.

Time Commitment:
At least one event or party.

Festival Liaison: (5-8)
Primarily staff the phone line and monitor website at Festival Headquarters leading up to the festival and at Festival Central during the festival. Provide up-to-date and accurate information. Assist Box Office when necessary and promptly return informational phone calls. Provide a constant link in the information sharing process. Friendly, enthusiastic and detail oriented. Time could be very busy and also have periods of inactivity during which other clerical/administrative tasks would be required. Additionally this position will provide support to the Sponsor Relations Coordinator in sponsor fulfillment (prepare and deliver Sponsor gifts and provide consistent link to sponsors during the festival). Background in Customer Service, Hospitality, and/or retail extremely useful.

Time Commitment:
Must be quite available from Oct 10-Nov 4. Approx 40 hours

Box Office Staff: (5-8)
Work under the Front of House Coordinator to monitor sales, return sales calls, monitor RSVP lists and fulfill ticket orders at Festival Headquarters leading up to the festival and at Festival Central during the festival. Must be detail-oriented, conscientious, honest and thorough. Able to handle potentially difficult situations with ease and grace. Experience in box-office, retail, sales and customer service is preferred.

Time Commitment:
Must be quite available from Oct 10-Nov 4. Approx 40 hours.

Traffic and Technical Coordinator: (1 )
Responsible for all pre-festival and during festival coordination of all screenings and technical equipment. Duties include: Creating master List of Films; Matching list with screening copies in house at Festival HQ; Coordinating delivery of films to theatres for review in advance of screening; Arranging for films to be screened by projectionist for errors; Organizing play list for projectionist with times for each venue; Arranging for pick-up of films from venue at end of each day and Returning films to Festival HQ.
Determine any additional technical needs from/for all venues and create fulfillment plan.

Time Commitment:
15 – 20 hours (Sept 26 – Nov 5)

Traffic Runner: (1 to 4)
Take films to venue and drop off with projectionist. Pick-up films from venue at end of last screening at venue and return them to Festival HQ.

Time Commitment:
3 -12 hours (Oct. 29 – Nov. 4)

Sponsor Relations Coordinator: (1)
Manage most aspects of sponsor relations once cash sponsors have been identified and invoiced. Additionally provide considerable outreach and effort to procure In-Kind sponsors and work with Director closely on this. Manage fulfillment of sponsor agreements and sponsor gifts. Provide consistent contact with sponsors from 2 weeks out and through festival.
Hospitality background as well as development and fundraising experience very useful.

Time Commitment:
approximately 60 hours

Social Media Team: (5-7)
In order to quickly spread the word of mouth and buzz for the festival, we need to engage our community and the best way to do this is make them aware of the event.  If you consider yourself a social media butterfly and love the festival – this is a match made for celluloid.

  • Work with Marketing and Media Partners on messaging needs of festival
  • Need to post info about events, screenings, parties, workshops and panels across platform on the JFF Facebook page & Twitter accounts.
  • Need to spread word amongst our fan base – encourage re-tweeting & re-posting.
  • Post on personal Facebook pages and twitter accounts to encourage our friends to help spread the word.
  • Engage our audience via special offerings only through Twitter of FB.

    Time Commitment:
    now through the festival - 3 – 21 hours

    DOCUMENTATION – Photography and Video Teams: (5-10)

    Professional or highly skilled hobby photographers/videographers will create a schedule to document every element of the film festival’s activities and participants. Photographers/videographers will return their “best” photos/footage for use in conjunction with Jacksonville Film Festival future marketing (with photo/footage credit). Photographers may also use/sell their photos on their own. Each team will be coordinated separately and work under the direction of the Festival Director/Marketing and Media Partners.
